The Power of Community:

Finding Space to Breathe, Connect and Feel Well

At Kula, community will forever be at the heart of what we do, and that idea sits behind everything we are trying to create here.

We believe wellbeing isn't just about looking after ourselves. It's also about the people around us, the places where we feel comfortable being ourselves and those little moments of connection that can make a real difference to how we feel.

As we move through October and recognise Emotional Wellbeing Month and World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October, it feels like a good time to think about how we look after our emotional wellbeing – and how important it can be to have people around us.

We know that life can feel busy. There are always things to do, people to look after and places to be. More often than not and without even realising it, we can put ourselves at the bottom of the list. Taking a moment to stop doesn't have to mean making a huge change. Sometimes it's simply taking a breath, going for a walk, joining a class or having a chat with someone who makes you feel good.

The importance of connection

Community also doesn't have to mean knowing everyone. Sometimes it's as simple as recognising a familiar face when you walk into a class, chatting to someone afterwards or just knowing that there is somewhere you can go where people are always going to be pleased to see you!

For us, that's a big part of what Kula is about.

Our classes are about movement and wellbeing, but they are also about coming together. You don't have to be the most flexible person in the room or even have done any exercise before, and you most certainly don't need to arrive having everything figured out. There are no expectations; we welcome you and encourage you to just turn up as you are. We hope that Kula feels like a place where you can take a little time for yourself, meet people and feel part of something that helps you connect physically and emotionally.

On World Mental Health Day….we invite you to make some space to breathe….

To mark World Mental Health Day, we are offering a special FREE Breathwork Class focused on anxiety. Come and take this opportunity to slow things down, spend some time with your breath and explore simple breathing practices in a calm and supportive environment.

Do you ever take a moment to just stop? When life feels busy or stressful, we know that taking time to pause can be difficult. Breathwork makes room for just this and allows us to pay attention to how we are feeling. You don't need any previous experience and there is nothing you need to achieve. Just come along, get comfortable and give yourself some time to breathe.

And, the most important part is you don't have to do it on your own. We welcome you to experience it alongside other people who are also willing to take a little time for themselves. Because wellbeing is better together.

We often think of wellbeing as something we must work on by ourselves – exercise more, sleep better, eat well, take vitamins, practise mindfulness. All of those things can be valuable, but we also need emotional connections.

A conversation. A familiar face. A shared experience. A place where you feel welcome. These things matter too.

As the clocks go back, make a little time for yourself…

Like us, do you dread the changing of seasons as the darker nights draw in?  As October comes to an end and the clocks go back, we naturally start to spend a little more time indoors. We encourage you to use this time to reflect; perhaps this is actually a good reminder to slow down.

We are gifted an extra hour, so why not use a little of it for something that makes you feel good? Perhaps it’s as simple as calling an old friend; there doesn't always need to be a big reason to look after your emotional wellbeing. Sometimes it's merely making a little more time for yourself and the people around you - that's what community at Kula is all about -you don't have to do it all alone.
